The 12th SMART TEXTILES user forum, which took place in Berlin on February 27 and 28, 2024, proved to be an important meeting place for experts, companies and developers in the field of smart textiles.

Organized by TITV Greiz in cooperation with the Forschungskuratorium Textil e. V., Berlin, and the German Institutes for Textile and Fiber Research Denkendorf (DITF), the event offered a multifaceted program that highlighted the latest developments and applications in the world of smart textiles.

The forum began on Tuesday, February 27, with an exclusive tour of BSH Hausgeräte GmbH's laundry care technology center, followed by a cultural program that gave participants the choice between a guided tour of the historic Siemensstadt or a look behind the scenes at the Olympic Stadium. The first day was crowned with a dinner at the renowned Hotel Palace Berlin in Charlottenburg.

Wednesday, February 28, was an intensive day of presentations, exhibitions and discussions at the Panorama Congress Center in Berlin. Companies, start-ups and developers presented their latest innovations and exchanged views on the diverse areas of application for smart textiles. From healthcare to fashion, from sport to industry - the wide range of applications presented reflected the wealth of innovation in the industry.

The thematic range of presentations reflected the diversity of smart textiles:

  • Smart Materials: experts presented ground-breaking developments and new materials that lay the foundations for the next generation of intelligent textiles.
  • Smart Textile Processing: Technologies and processes in the processing of smart textiles were highlighted to provide new insights into the ongoing integration of technology into fabrics.
  • Smart applications: Field reports and use cases from companies provided practical insights into the integration of smart textiles in different areas.
  • AI/digitalization/sustainability: The progressive role of artificial intelligence, digitalization and sustainability in the smart textiles industry was discussed intensively in this thematic block.

Parallel to the presentations, an accompanying exhibition offered the opportunity to experience innovative products and solutions up close. Speakers, exhibitors and participants presented their achievements and were available for in-depth discussions. The dynamic discussions and networking opportunities helped to ensure that the SMART TEXTILES user forum once again acted as a breeding ground for forward-looking developments and collaborations.

The positive feedback from participants confirmed the organizers' commitment to promoting and further developing the smart textiles industry. The anticipation for the next forum on March 19 and 20, 2025 is already palpable, when experts and innovators will once again gather to shape the future of smart textiles.
